About Mayor Mike McCormick
Serving his third term as Mayor of Godfrey, Mike McCormick has led the city to sustained financial stability while making numerous improvements in parks and roads. Under his leadership, Godfrey has the lowest municipal tax rate in the county and operates with no debt and virtually no pension liability. Mayor McCormick is especially proud of the city’s assistance to local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, both through a voucher program that was hugely successful and is being expanded as well as more recently passing assistance to businesses with their utility bills.
Before Mayor McCormick assumed full-time duties as Mayor he was a successful entrepreneur establishing and running several businesses. His wife Linda owns and operates the Cookie Factory in Alton.
A lifelong resident of the Riverbend area, Mayor McCormick has been extensively involved with numerous community organizations. He serves or has served on:
- The Rivers and Routes Board
- Asbury Village Board
- Chairman of the Tree of Lights Campaign twice for Salvation Army
- Oasis Board
- Lewis and Clark Foundation (Past President)
- Rotary Club (Past President)
- The Moose
- Sportsman Club
- Chairman of Bedell Dance
Most recently he was selected by his fellow mayors in the state to serve as Vice President of the Illinois Municipal League.
Despite having rejected pay raises for himself, Mayor McCormick considers his role to be full time. When not attending events or meetings for the city, you can find Mike McCormick at city hall, working. He even moved his office from the back to the front of the building so the first person you see is him.
